What Fervor & Zeal Means to Jay
When I co-founded my first business, I didn’t really know what I was doing. I just knew that we were good at designing and building websites and that we’d try to figure out the business stuff along the way. It took over a decade to start to feel confident in my abilities as a “business person.”
At Visceral, we build brands and websites for some truly amazing organizations—people who are saving wildlife, fighting cancer, exploring our oceans, and doing scientific research. We’re thrilled to support those folks, but we’ve always had a nagging question in the back of our minds: What if we could build something that was uniquely ours?
To me, Fervor & Zeal is an opportunity to learn new skills, try new things, and engage even more with the people I believe are fighting to make a real impact: artists and nonprofits, and to directly support them. I’m not rich, but at age 45, I have been successful enough to escape the paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle that plagues so many hard-working Americans.
So Fervor & Zeal isn’t a “get rich quick scheme” or a “side hustle.” It’s a fun hobby that funnels money into the hands of awesome people. As part of the B Corp community for almost a decade, I absolutely believe that business can (and should) be a force for good in the world. Focusing more on positive change instead of just the bottom line leads to better business, communities, and, ultimately, a better world.
